Weekly Spelling Homework
Spelling is differentiated in our class. Therfore, not everyone is on the same spelling list. However, for each spelling list, there are homework choices students are to pick from each night.
Monday: Choose from Level 1 activities
Tuesday: Choose from Level 2 activities
Wednesday: Choose from Level 3 activities
Thursday: Choose from Level 4 activities.
Friday: SPELLING FOLDERS WITH ALL WORKSHEETS AND ACTIVITY CHOICES ARE DUE
SPELLING TESTS ARE ON FRIDAY MORNINGS
Weekly Writing Assignments
Each week students will be introduced to a writing prompt and activity center. Students have the week to complete the assignment and turn it in by Friday.
Monday: Writing Lesson and Center Introduction
Students use the provided planner to plan their writing.
Tuesday: Write a rough draft
Wednesday: Peer Review/Revise
Thursday: Teacher Conference/Revise to Final Copy
Friday: Author's Chair
AR Reading
Students and teacher set quarterly goals based on each student's reading level. Your child is to read an AR book for 20 minutes each night. When they finish thier books, they write a brief report on their book and then take an AR test. Points are earned based on success of taking the AR tests. Each quarter a party is given for those students who met their quarterly AR goals.
October Spider Unit Project
The month of October students will be introduced to the wonderful world of spiders. We will read two stories from our basal series on spiders, not to mention many books on spiders from the library. Students will learn how to make a story web for three different spiders. From these story webs, students will write a five paragraph essay on spiders. Along with the writing project, there will be many other activities in Math, Science, and Art related to spiders. Our room will be crawling with the eight-legged creatures just in time for Halloween! Come in and see the students' wonderful work!
